Tirano: Situated at an altitude of 450 mt. a distance of 160 km. From Milan , less than 1 km. From Piattamala Swiss border and 50 km. from St. Moritz across the Bernina Pass. Already inhabited in the pre historical age Tirano became famous in the xvth century for the appearance of the Madonna and in honour of this event a Sanctuary was established and given the name "Beata Vergine" , (Blessed Virgin ), the most important religious monument in the valley. Close to the valley of Poschiavo and above all terminus for the enchanting Bernina Express (the little red train)to St.Moritz. These attractions bring numerous tourist every year to Tirano.


The historical center, one of the most interesting and impresive in the whole of Valtellina is rich with noble buildings, one of which: Palazzo Sertoli Salis, apart from the artistic decorations , furniture and objects Sertoli Salis also hosts an antique wine cellar. The Ethnographic Museum in Tirano is also very important, based in the xvth Casa del Penitenziere in the Basilica square with its numerous sacred and antique art collection arranged in thirteen rooms spaced out on three floors
